Year (s): 1946 Newark Eagles: The first professional team owned and operated by a woman, Effa Manley. The 1946 edition of the Eagles won the Negro World Series. Featuring the double play combo of future Major Leaguers Larry Doby and Monte Irvin. They featured the great battery of Biz Mackey (C) and Leon Day (P). Other soaring Eagles included Hall of Famer Ray Dandridge and future Dodger Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and Cy Young winner Don Newcombe. The Eagles played in the Negro National League from 1936-1948. This cap was worn by the 1946 champs.
